The Birth Story of Brighton Rocket

I’ve said before how hard it is for me to share my birth images. They are just so personal and special. And I carry so much of the experience with me, that a part of me wants to protect them and keep them close. But the other part of me knows that sharing them with the world is part of my job.
I am grateful for the amazing experience of watching Brighton enter the world. His mom was incredible. She had a short labor, and had complete control over her body and the pain she was in. Dad was calm, in spite of his obvious excitement, and “caught” him as he was born. Their midwife was amazing, as she always is, providing a level of care that is unmatched, in my opinion.

The Traveling Dress

When Teresa Vick invited me to join the Traveling Dress Project, I was thrilled and in disbelief to be collaborating with such talented artists.  And then, when Lexy Parks agreed to make our dress I was over the moon with excitement to start shooting. We shot these a few months ago. And I have been waiting (oh, the agony) to share!

We hiked to the top of this mountain. It was insanely windy and I accidentally stabbed myself in the leg with a sharp desert plant, but it was all worth it.
A huge thank you to my wonderful assistant Lisa Roland and to my beautiful model and friend Christina Ibarra.

Here is where we took the dress and how it inspired me…

The Birth Story of Nakoa

This family has a connection that is impossible to describe. They have so much love for each other. They are full of grace (Mom’s name actually, so fitting) patience, joy, and passion for each other. Mom was amazing to watch as she brought life into the world. She was incredibly strong and calm. Big sister was like a mini doula, comforting and loving her mama. She was stoic the entire time. Even when mom’s pain levels were obviously high, she remained centered and kept her composure better than most grown ups would in that situation. Dad was a rock, with his unending support and, as you’ll see, it is so obvious just how much that man loves his family.
Her nurses were so attentive and caring (if you know me, you know I love nurses). Her midwife provided a level of care, the likes of which I have never seen before. She was exactly the kind of caregiver every mother should have at her bedside during childbirth. She was just wonderful to be around and to watch.
I am forever grateful to have been there for Nakoa’s birth. It was an honor to witness and to capture for them.

The Perfect Desert Wedding…

First, let me say, I am NOT a wedding photographer. Not in the traditional sense, anyway.
And this is exactly what I said to this wonderful couple when they asked me to photograph their wedding. But I have had the pleasure of photographing them before and they were such a dream… And then they said nice things and I totally caved 🙂 But it turned out to be a perfect fit for me. It was everything. So small and intimate. So personal and effortless. It was romantic and rustic.

So. If this is what weddings are… then I am DEFINITELY a wedding photographer.

This beautiful woman means more to me than I can put into words right now, so I will just let the photos speak for me. And the chance to capture her like this is everything…

The Murphy Family

I can’t express what this family means to me. They have been my clients for 4 years now. They have believed in me and trusted me again and again, and I am so grateful to them. I have loved watching their girls grow and photographing them is one of my most favorite things. <3

The Moore Family

I am so happy to have found this beautiful family. It was my first time photographing them but I feel like I’ve known them for years. They have so much love, and it was an honor to capture them <3

The Birth Story of Alice

Birth photography is still pretty new to me. I am still wrapping my head around it, and figuring out how much of it I want to share. I have removed some of the photos from this gallery for this post because I am too attached to them to share with the world. Maybe later, down the road, I will be in a place where I can share an entire gallery, but for now, I have this for you to see. For you to get a small glimpse into the story of Alice’s birth.

It was an absolute honor and a privilege to be there, and witness her entrance to the world. To see her amazing mother and father as they worked together through the labor. To see this mother be a true warrior. To watch Alice meet her parents for the first time. To see how much they love her. To see her big sisters welcome her into their family. To witness this miracle….

In-Home Maternity Session

This was one of my favorite sessions ever. This beautiful family of girls let me in to their home for the afternoon, and we had a blast. Their home is full of joy, love and light, and I can’t wait to capture the moments when their newest baby girl arrives in just a few weeks.
