April

This beautiful woman means more to me than I can put into words right now, so I will just let the photos speak for me. And the chance to capture her like this is everything…

The Moore Family

I am so happy to have found this beautiful family. It was my first time photographing them but I feel like I’ve known them for years. They have so much love, and it was an honor to capture them <3

The Birth Story of Alice

Birth photography is still pretty new to me. I am still wrapping my head around it, and figuring out how much of it I want to share. I have removed some of the photos from this gallery for this post because I am too attached to them to share with the world. Maybe later, down the road, I will be in a place where I can share an entire gallery, but for now, I have this for you to see. For you to get a small glimpse into the story of Alice’s birth.

It was an absolute honor and a privilege to be there, and witness her entrance to the world. To see her amazing mother and father as they worked together through the labor. To see this mother be a true warrior. To watch Alice meet her parents for the first time. To see how much they love her. To see her big sisters welcome her into their family. To witness this miracle….

Here is the Birth Story of Alice <3

Life {Unscripted} Blog Circle June Edition

This month’s collection is some of my favorites from our trip to Ohio, which is where I’m originally from. Our trip didn’t go exactly as planned. My youngest came down with a virus that made him very sick and we spent half of the trip taking care of him around the clock because he was feeling so bad. But, I am VERY happy to say that he is feeling much better now 🙂 And we all survived the trip.
My {unscripted} nature in my shooting style has taken over completely, it seems. I looked through all of my photos from this trip and I don’t have any of the typical “we got all the family together now let’s get a photo” photos. I don’t know if I wish I did or not. But I know that I’m grateful for these people, these memories, these moments, and these photos. Even if the trip wasn’t at all what we were expecting.

Life {Unscripted} Blog Circle – May Edition

My friend Lisa and I took my kids to the ruins recently to let them explore and so that we could get a chance to shoot. It was midday sun, which always provides a big challenge for me. But it seems the flawed images are always my favorite. Especially in my personal work.

I hope you enjoy them.

Workshop hosted by April Kraus

“April takes the time to get to know her students and what it is about photography that motivates and moves them. Her teaching style is engaging and encouraging. After taking her class, you won’t want to put your camera down and will have a strong foundation to start building a lifelong love of photography.”

I have been studying and teaching photography for many years. I am a professional, and an artist. I have a degree in photography that was rooted in film and has evolved into digital work. I would love to share my knowledge with you.
Here is some of what you will learn at one of my beginner workshops:

  • One on one, hands on instruction with your own camera. I will show you what all those buttons do that you never use 😉
  • Basic photography principles such as exposure, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, composition, etc.
  • What kind of equipment would benefit you most
  • Artistic aspects of photography and how to critique your own photos
  • Hands on shooting time with me and other attendees to apply what you’ve learned

A year and a half ago I took April’s workshop. I had absolutely no experience with any camera. And it was like a light got switched on and I’ve been running with my camera ever since I have taken subsequent workshops from her, as well additional one on one lessons. Just taking first class, was one of the best decisions I ever made. I am so happy with the progress I’ve made thanks to her.

~Lisa, AKP workshop attendee

My workshops are not meant to be easy. I will not show you “shortcuts” on how to get great photos. Instead, I will teach you the building blocks to a strong knowledge of your camera and photography, and I will continue to help you along your journey through my Facebook group. It’s a place to share photos, ask questions and get feedback from me, as well as from other budding photographers.

I am offering a workshop on June 4th in Columbus, OH (specific location TBD) and I have a few spots left.

If you would like one please email me at aprilkrausphotography@gmail.com
